The RER Community Clothes Closet provides emergency clothing assistance to families in need in Rockdale County. RER assumed responsibility for the operation of the Clothes Closet in 2012. It does so in partnership with Growing Discoveries Outreach Ministries.
Individuals or families may be referred by local community and faith-based organizations, or they may simply self-refer. Anyone needing assistance can come to the RER offices (located at 350 Tall Oaks Drive SE Conyers) and ask to receive a voucher for a specific appointment time to visit the Clothes Closet (located at 1018-A Green Street SE Conyers) where clients are then able to select needed clothing and household items. Each family member may select clothing items as needed (shirts, pants, coats, or shoes) as well as available household items such as linens. Participants may receive a voucher for clothing once every three months.
Those requesting assistance from the Community Clothes Closet must bring:
A. Proof of identification - requires social security cards for all household members and a photo ID for the person receiving services.
B. Proof of residency in Rockdale County - requires a current lease or utility bill in recipient's name with a Rockdale County address. If client is living in a local hotel/motel s/he must provide a current bill from the hotel/motel.
Clothes Closet Service Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00-1:30
PLEASE come by RER to receive an appointment time to visit the Clothes Closet. Vouchers are given out Monday-Thursday at the RER Office on Tall Oaks Drive from 9:00-3:00.
The RER Community Clothes Closet depends in large part upon donations of clothing items contributed by local families, and/or collected through drives organized by schools, companies, and religious and social organizations. It is easy to make an in-kind donation of clothing - just bring your clean and laundered, gently used clothing donations to RER's office at 350 Tall Oaks Drive between 9:00 & 3:00, Monday-Thursday. Or if you'd like to organize a clothing drive, just follow the steps below:
1. Set the date(s), choose a location, decide what type of items to collect, and let us know of your arrangements. We welcome drives for specific items - feel free to ask us which items are most needed in the food bank during a particular time. It is extremely helpful if you collect and donate in-season clothing (i.e. cold weather clothing should be donated in the fall and early winter, not in the spring or early summer).
2. Spread the word! RER can provide a customized flyer for your use if you'd like.
3. Collect the items, and then deliver your items to RER between 9:00 & 3:00, Monday-Thursday.
